voting with dollars
One thing that Emily & I have been dealing with is how to live a somewhat normal life while giving as little money has we possibly can to companies that do 'bad' things. One thing that has bugged the hell out of me is people who are fairly progressive who continue to shop at Wal-Mart. Now there is nothing wrong with wanting to get a lot of stuff for as little money as possible, but especially with Wal-Mart that $10 polo shirt is costing your community a heck of a lot. They have to be very agressive about cutting costs, like labor costs, cutting health care, brutal buying practices, making sweatshop conditions worse (no, really),...
My bottleline question is what are you voting for? Did you know that the organic produce at the People's Co-op is better cheaper on average then Fred Meyers? Did you know that Cage free eggs are about $0.10 more expensive then "conventional" eggs? I'm not asking people to break their bank in doing the right thing, but at least get present to what you are voting for.
