yard map update

By jeremy - Posted on 14 December 2004

While I'm no where near complete yet, here is what I have managed to do with the yard mapping project. Using the following base image which came from Portland Maps I traced some of the key features and came up with the vector drawing on the right.

There are still several features that I haven't included in the vector drawing, but this has still been very helpful. I never realized how... catywampus my yard was in relation to standard north - south or west-east orientation. I had planned putting in a greenhouse where the shed is (the smaller rectangle next to the house) but it turns out the shed is put in a very good place. I'm now planning on putting in the makeshift greenhouse closer to the bend in the property line on the northside. The arbor vitae in the western corner are going to be trimmed down by several feet to reduce shading of the veggie garden. I still have to figure out where the fruit trees are going and the herb garden is going, but that is half the fun.

Thanks! I'm looking into ways of making my farm plan viewable by non-GIS users...I think it's ArcMap Production Designer that allows folks with a free plugin to do simple layer manipulation.

Open-source Permaculture? Peer-reviewed, anyway.

Of course, all this assumes I finish said farm plan.....
